As jewellery making involves many different processes, there are basic skills which have to be learned.
It is essential that beginners do some simple projects to develop these basic skills, before thinking of attempting any particular projects of their own choice.
The basic skills are:
1. Selecting and estimating materials required;
2. Measuring and marking out;
3. Sawing;
4. Filing;
5. Shaping, twisting, forming;
6. Soldering – a most essential basic skill;
7. Cleaning up and finishing off;
8. Polishing.
To develop these skills by stages, new members are required to make two projects, each one introducing new skills whilst reinforcing skills already attained.
The club has the necessary hand tools for the beginners to get started in their work. You need to wear footwear that fully encloses your feet, and wear older clothing.
